The Studio Epic Fail Challenge

Hi, friends!  Just popping in, on this stormy, Sunday morning, to share The Studio's latest challenge.  This time, we're asking you to create a page with an "Epic Fail" theme.  These girls are really making me think with some of these challenges.  LOVE it!  Although I may be stretching it a bit, here's how I was inspired.
I started this page by inking Dusty Concord Distress Ink, through a chevron template, onto the distressed, ivory, patterned, paper, base page.  I then strategically stamped, in Jet Black ink, a plethora of triangles and, in Pacific Point and Dusty Concord inks, a number of circles throughout the design.  After securing a trio of patterned papers, vertically and haphazardly, near the right side of the layout, with black-threaded, straight and zig-zag, machine stitches, I framed them with torn lengths of green, stripe Washi Tape.  My photo was mounted on a bit of folded, Whisper White cardstock, which had its right side punched with the half circle tab; backed with bits of yellow manuscript and dictionary, patterned papers, as well as polka dot, embossed vellum; stapled with a July 7, 2012, chevron tab; and grounded with the "SWEET disaster" title, which was created with blue, polka dot, chipboard Thickers and Basic Black cardstock, cut with my Cameo.
The photograph's top edge was embellished with a kraft, Red Velvet B-day Cake, journaling tag...
and its bottom left corner with a stamped, in Jet Black ink, on vellum, sad face tag, which I hand cut out, as well as a "SMILE", cut phrase and "OPEN THIS.", cardstock, sticker pennant.
In doing just what that last element says, you'll find the rescued cake...
as well as the journaling to go with it.  On the way to Emporia to celebrate your birthday @ Grandpa & Grandma's, the air conditioning went out in the car.  We were too far into the drive to turn back.  So, I put your cake, on the floor, in the shade.  Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to contend with the 100 degree temps. & had to be rescued for the big day.  It was still delicious!
A couple of circle rubons; number of buttons, anchored with white string; lots of cardstock stickers; handful of enamel dots; and even a yellow, floral eyelet, some of which were also pulled into the journaling area, complete the look.
Further inspiration for this layout came from Kreative Koncepts' Colour Challenge #24...
and Creative Scrappers' Sketch #266.
Don't forget to stop by the challenge link above to check out the rest of the team's "Epic Fail" creations, as well as to get all your challenge details.  Thanks so much for taking a look, and have a wonderful, work week!  Hugs!

Wonderful layout! Loving all the circles and the plum color...I have had numerous baking epic fails, but mostly because I actually made the cake wrong. What a great thing to commemorate....these are stories the kids will enjoy later in life for sure!
